We’ve done the homework to recommend CFLs for the various lighting uses to make it easier for you to start saving money today. Switching from incandescent bulbs to CFLs is the easiest step you can take to save on your energy bill and help the environment.
If every home in America replaced just one incandescent light bulb with a CFL, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes. Put another way, changing just one bulb in every home in America removes as much greenhouse gas pollution as planting 1.1 million acres of trees or taking 800,000 cars off the road each year.
CFLs have come a long way in the last 20 years. Today’s CFLs use advanced technology, are small, quick to light up, efficient, produce better light, and are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. We have specified standard lights plus those that work with dimmers. Qualified CFLs use electronic ballasts, which do not buzz or hum.
Even though CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, that amount is significantly less than the amount of mercury avoided as a result of the energy savings. Code Green Lights also provides free CFL pickup services for its customers to properly dispose of CFLs. Other recycling services are available for a small fee.
